Right To Play teams up with US First Lady Michelle Obama to promote
the transformative power of play

(LONDON, UK – July 27, 2012) Right To Play was thrilled to have been selected to team up with the US First Lady Michelle Obama for the Let’s Move! London event on July 27.

The event was part of the Let’s Move initiative, which aims to solve the problem of childhood obesity and encourage an active and healthy lifestyle for American children.

Right To Play ran sport and play activities for about 1,000 American and British children to educate them on the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle. Activities were led by Right To Play Athlete Ambassadors Nancy Hogshead Makar, Gary Hall Jr., Ana Shapiro, Martyn Bernard, Liz Yelling, Jason Rogers and Lauryn Williams, who were there to celebrate and inspire the young participants.

“Play is not a luxury,” said Right To Play President and CEO Johann Koss. “Our play programs have the power to transform a child’s life no matter where they live; whether it is in the United States, United Kingdom, Rwanda or Peru. We are so honoured to be part this event and the First Lady’s Let’s Move initiative.”

Let’s Move! London included play stations, performances and chances for the children to meet sports legends including the members of the U.S. Presidential Delegation, along with David Beckham, Summer Sanders, Bart Conner, Nadia Comaneci, Teresa Edwards, Emily Hughes, Sarah Hughes, Shawn Johnson, Carl Lewis, Dikembe Mutombo and Dara Torres.
