“Pelada” Documentary Screening at Crescent School

Body:

The film Pelada is a critically acclaimed documentary, which one wonderful school used to promote and support Right To Play. The film documents improvised soccer games, which take place on side streets and alleyways everywhere in the world. Here in Canada we often refer to them as “pick-up” games. The central idea is to demonstrate the power of sport without the fancy lights and groomed turf. Pelada illustrates the raw heart of the game. The film follows two former college soccer players, Luke and Gwendolyn as they discover the stories of the everyday people who play soccer, worldwide.

At Crescent School, a private school in Toronto, Pelada was screened for a large crowd on February 22nd. Tickets for the screening were sold at JMT METROSPORT and all proceeds were donated to Right To Play. The event raised $2,300 for Right To Play. The screening also worked to change the perspective that people had surrounding the power of sport, through the viewing of this amazing documentary.

With support from many soccer clubs and teams, as well as sponsorships from other sport related companies, Crescent School pulled off the event successfully. The evening was quite memorable, and took place without a hitch. Definitely one for the books.

Right To Play is certainly impressed by Crescent School’s enthusiasm for and dedication to sport and play.

An Inspired Youth Will Walk 800km for Right To Play!

Body:

Jake Wildman-Sisk has always been an active guy and strongly believes that sport and play are an integral part of a youth's development. It was only natural that he connected with Right to Play's advocacy for Sport for Development and in 2011, he became involved directly with the cause.

Currently, he is a student and Co-President of University of New Brunswick Right To Play Club. He's personally helped to raise over $20,000 through fundraising initiatives that go directly to support Right To Play programs.

And if that wasn't enough... this inspiring young man has now taken on the ultimate challenge to continue building awareness globally for Right To Play. He's walking the Camino de Santiago de Compestela starting in June. This legendary pilgrim’s route through Northern Spain is bordering 800 kilometers and will take Jake approximately 35 days to complete!

In Jake's own words, "I've had the great fortune of learning about and working with a number of organizations and have been amazed at the effectiveness of Right To Play. I've decided to do the long walk in Northern Spain that I'm embarking on shortly in support of Right To Play because I'm hoping more people will hear about this great organization and realize the true sustainability of Right To Play programming."

Right To Play applauds Jake's ongoing dedication and obvious passion. Let's all help him reach his goal of spreading the word of Right To Play to 500 PEOPLE!
