Johan van der Werf began his career as an officer in the Merchant Marine, moving to the insurance world in 1982.  Johan was chairman/CEO of Spaarbeleg from 1987 till 1992.  From 1992 until April 2002, Johan was a member of the Management Board of AEGON Nederland N.V. In addition, Johan chairs the Supervisory Boards of the Meeùs Group, sits on the Supervisory Boards of ONVZ and Delta Public Utilities, and sits on the Boards of the Association of Dutch Insurers and the employers’ organization VNO/NCW (Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers).
