Håndballskole i Ugande med Marit, Else-Marthe og Alex

Håndballambassadørene Marit Breivik, Else-Marthe Sørlie Lybekk og Alexander Buchmann besøkte i september Right To Play's prosjekter i Uganda. Her gjennomførte trioen håndballskole med stor entusiasme til stor glede og inspirasjon for unge, lovende håndballtalenter som knapt nok tidligere hadde sett eller tatt i en håndball. Representanter fra Right To Play's nasjonale partner Kjøpmannshuset med SPAR og Joker deltok også på turen. Youth delegates say the impact of sport in children’s lives has been underestimated

Addressing the Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Committee of the UN General Assembly on October 5, youth delegates from Norway, Turkey, Republic of Korea, Finland, Netherlands and Slovakia spoke about the power of sport and play to change lives.

Jordy Sweep, a delegate from the Netherlands, told the story of 10-year-old Themba, whose mother suffered from HIV and AIDS and whose older brother was a drug addict.  Themba did not go to school to improve his future, but so he could go to football practice afterwards.  Sweep stated that the importance of sports in young people's lives has been greatly underestimated.  Read More...

Sport can change attitudes about people with disabilities, says Wilfried Lemke

Sport can be a transformative force in altering attitudes of what communities think about people with disabilities as well as what these people feel about themselves, the United Nations official tasked with promoting sport for development and peace said today.

"Sport functions as a tool to improve the inclusion and well-being of people with disabilities," Wilfried Lemke, the UN Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace, said at the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) in Bonn, Germany on September 4.
