Chemmy is Britain’s number one alpine skier. Having started skiing from the tender age of just 18 months she has made a name for herself as a top skiing talent, representing Team GB in the 2002, 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics. Chemmy is the first British woman to qualify for and race in a World Cup Final, and has five top 10 World Cup finishes to her name. Chemmy's been the number one British woman skier for a record seven years, and until her accident was Britain’s only female representative in the World Cup and is the highest ranked female British skier ever. |
Her enthusiasm for training and competition has won her a lot of admirers – particularly fellow skiers, who respect her dedication and sheer determination. A measure of that determination was evident at the Turin Winter Olympics in 2006. For many years, Alcott had suffered from agonising bone spurs on her feet and had missed races and crucial training in the lead-up to the Games. So her 11th place in the downhill was an incredible feat of grit and determination. It was also the best result by a British female skier since the 1968 Games in Grenoble.
In addition to her extensive training programme, Chemmy has been an amazing supporter of Right To Play. Her participation in several Right To Play events in the UK and abroad has seen her champion the Right To Play cause and be a fantastic spokes person.
| The highlight of her involvement goes back to 2008 when she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. Through her efforts, she was able to raise a significant amount of awareness for Right To Play both in Tanzania and here in the UK. Chemmy is someone who puts her money where her mouth is and used the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro to raise funds in support of local Right To Play projects in Tanzania. Following that adventure, she took on yet another, as she travelled to experience Right To Play programming first hand in Tanzania. |

Chemmy has recently swapped her skis for skates, as she’s taken on the challenge of Dancing On Ice, which can be seen on ITV at the moment. Knowing her dedication and enthusiasm, she looks to take the show by storm!
