The Policy and Strategic Initiatives department at Right To Play conducts direct advocacy work on behalf of Right To Play internationally at the government level, with the United Nations, and with other international Non-Governmental Organizations.

Prior to 2009, the work of the policy department was heavily driven by our role as Secretariat to the Sport for Development and Peace International Working Group (SDP IWG). In this role, the function of the policy department was to develop and nuture partnerships with key parties from the international Sport for Development and Peace community.

Other collaborators included representatives from UN agencies, other multilateral organizations, and inter-governmental bodies, sports federations and international Non-Governmental Organizations engaged in Sport for Development and Peace. These organizations, together with SDP IWG member governments, contributed to the development of the recommendations that were released in the final report Harnessing the Power of Sport for Development and Peace: Recommendations to Governments in Beijing in 2008.
